A bit belated this, but never mind. Our first trip away of the year saw us appear on stage in Ogmore Vale, South Wales alongside their own male voice choir. What a performance we put in, and our hosts’ own chairman said that he wondered how anyone could top it. Compliments flowed in from all sides, and we have something of which we can all be proud. The icing on the cake was the chance to join with them in the Afterglow, where we could slightly relax and sing together over a beer. Ogmore Valley MVC were tremendous hosts, and their hospitality was without peer – we owe them a huge vote of thanks, and have already agreed to sing with them again in a couple of years. Barry

Just as a bulb bursting into the Spring sunshine like a long-dormant Rose, Churchdown Male Voice Choir has erupted onto the stage with our first concert of the year. We played to a packed audience at the Churchdown Methodist Church, with a variegated bouquet of music ranging from some of our popular songs from last year (like “Anthem”, “Nessun Dorma” and a growing medley of songs from Les Miserables) to some slightly less familiar numbers like “Speed your Journey”, “The Holy City” and Billy Joel’s “And So it Goes”. Worthy of special note was a positively regal new version of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and our rendition of “There Is Nothing Like a Dame” from South Pacific, complete with a spectacular solo break by Roger in an “interesting” Bronx accent. The audience reaction was every bit as brilliant as we’ve come to expect…….
We have no fewer than eighteen events lined up for this year, all in favour of local charities and ranging from the more informal sing-alongs at the Pelican, Farmers Club and Croft Farm to a Tuxedo-clad concert at Gloucester Cathedral. We’re also planning a couple of trips to Wales to show their Male Voice Choirs how it’s done! A great start to the year, and a foretaste of things to come. Barry Come spring into song with Churchdown Male Voice choir's first concert of 2024. Doors open at 7pm at Churchdown methodist church. An evening of wonderful entertainment.
